- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between the violent riots in the Parisian suburb Clichy-sous-Bois in 2005 and the ability of the French society to assimilate ethnic minorities. The problem in Clichy-sous-Bois was the ignorance displayed by police officers whose discriminatory attitudes where deeply rooted. This ignorance is all too often expressed through violence against ethnic minorities, which was the case in Clichy-sous-Bois.
Therefore, I intend to examine the practices of the French police force and the politics within, as well as the attitude among the French people directed towards minorities in their daily life. This ignorance is all too often expressed through violence against ethnic minorities, which was the case in Clichy-sous-Bois.

Not least how the immigration politics affect today’s immigrants. To illustrate these problems more extensively I have also brought up a few cases that deal with problems similar to those in Clichy-sous-Bois. The participation of French journalists and their representation of ethnic minorities in the newspapers are also important. During the riots, French newspapers presented a strong viewpoint regarding young people living in the suburbs, which worsened the case. However, the suburbs in France are becoming an increasingly hot zone for social vulnerability and discontent. In Clichy-sous-Bois, this was displayed through violent riots. (Less)
