Abstract
In Sweden, malignant melanoma is an important issue, because it is the most lethal form of skin cancer and has been one of the fastest increasing cancers during the last decade. The aim of our literature review was to investigate and describe preventative work, in order to identify the most efficient preventative methods for parents with young. Focus was mainly put on research from Australia since it is the dominating country in skin cancer research. Screening and preventative actions are more common in Australia than in Sweden. The method was a literature review focused on the current situation. An integrated systematic analyze of nine scientific studies was carried out. Two main categories of preventative methods were found, Education... (More)

The method was a literature review focused on the current situation. An integrated systematic analyze of nine scientific studies was carried out. Two main categories of preventative methods were found, Education and Screening, with the following subcategories: School Interventions and Parents & Children Interventions. Results showed a need for education about sun protection, particularly among parents of young children and screening. The conclusion is that nurses could play a major part in primary prevention among the public. Nurses are in a good position to inform and teach parents and their children at an early stage of prevention. (Less)
