The theory has mostly been applied on parties on a national level but we believe it may be able to explain success of local parties. Our results from our case study on two local parties in two Swedish municipalities indicate that it may explain support for local parties in two extremely different municipalities but that it needs to be tested with different methods (some kind of interview design) to be completely sure.
