Abstract
This study will provide an investigation of the prevalence of psychiatric symptoms in children and the efficiency of child psychiatric treatments at an open children’s and adolescent’s psychiatric clinic in Sweden. Quantative analysis of 1190 semi structured, normed interviews were conducted which make this sample including every intake patient at the clinic during a given time. 206 follow-up interviews were completed. The investigated clinic has four different child’s and adolescent’s out-patient teams where three of the teams are each conducting different specialized treatments on the basis of the patient’s symptoms, whereas the fourth team are performing treatments on a generalized basis with distinctive competences within the team. The results of this study are indicating that the team with the generalized perspective and thus are treating patients regardless of symptoms shows an equal or higher treatment effect-size assessed by symptom reduction in comparison to the other teams. The study indicates that BCFPI (Brief Child Family Phone Intervju) has worked well when it comes to referring the patients to the “right” team. The results are also indicating difficulties with evaluations procedures at the clinic due to insufficient organizational circumstances. (Less)
