The method for the description has been a qualitative text analysis of the Norwegian strategy for The High North, where I implement a dimensional analysis with three different environmental security theories with various reference objects: the state, the individual and the ecology. The result of this study shows that Norway has a comprehensive, but complex, relation to the Arctic environment. The complexity originates from the tensions both within and between the reference objects and their dimensions diverse requirements to raise their security, and the numerous threats to them. The study also concludes that the Norwegian state has adopted the broadening and deepening of the security concept to some degree. (Less)
