The purpose of this essay is to examine how machismo impacts the everyday lives – and subsequently the rights and freedoms – of the women in Mexico within the private sphere of their homes as well as in their public lives. Additionally, I intend to examine in what aspects machismo can be viewed as positive and negative respectively according to the Mexican women judging by their everyday experiences thereof. This will be done by dividing each sphere into relevant sub-chapters, constituting perhaps the most typical proofs of machismo’s impact on women’s lives. (Less)
