Abstract
Human beings have a universal human dignity. To realize it, they have to use the human rights that come with it. After the acknowledgement of their own dignity, they can respect human beings as bearers of the universal dignity. To respect the dignity is both to treat every human being as a subject, a goal itself, trough collaboration, and to create and maintain the conditions that need to exist for every human being so that they can live a life worthy of their dignity.

The purpose of this essay is to see if theater can be a method for respecting the universal human dignity in the process and effect of the theater. It will be shown that every form of theater respects the dignity in the process since it is necessary to collaborate in... (More)

The purpose of this essay is to see if theater can be a method for respecting the universal human dignity in the process and effect of the theater. It will be shown that every form of theater respects the dignity in the process since it is necessary to collaborate in theater. To also get the effect, the theater method has to; develop the emotional capacity; use intersubjectivity/empathy, use collaboration, transform egos to broad-minded, have a story about respecting the universal human dignity, create commitment outside the theater through spreading awareness and knowledge of how to respect the dignity, and commitment inside the theatre through re-occurring performances during a long period where you activate the audience.
