"Lite mer queer helt enkelt"

- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
- Abstract
- This study examines a specific part of the marketing process. Segmentation refers to the efforts of distinguishing and identifying smaller and separate entities from a broad market, an essential part of targeted marketing communications. A social constructivist understanding of identity and sexuality underlies this study. The study combines queer theoretical views and marketing theory in order to discuss how sexual identity works as an identifier of a market segment. Apollo, a Swedish based travel operator, identified a LGBT segment and launched the concept of Gay Friendly, which figures as an example throughout this study. The empirical material consists of individual and focus group interviews and aims to examine both underlying... (More)

The empirical material consists of individual and focus group interviews and aims to examine both underlying strategies of- and attitudes towards, segmentation based on sexual identity. This study shows how sexual identity is an unstable identifier of segmentation, and how the LGBT segment is characterised by fragmentation which results in both difficulties and opportunities for targeted marketing communications. The main findings of this study shows that queer theoretical deconstruction of identity categories may open to a field of new strategies for marketing communications. (Less)
