Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to examine the subordinate’s relationship to his/her closest manager, from the perspective of attachment theory. This was accomplished by comparing the attachment styles to the parents and attachment style to the manager. Attachment styles were measured through the dimensions of attachment related anxiety and attachment related avoidance. Furthermore, the aim of the study was to explore the possibility of variations in the strength of the correlations based on gender differences and differences in the age of the participants. A self-report survey was answered by 120 full-time employees within the following trades; hotel and restaurant, trade, tourism, banking, school, national defence and construction.... (More)

A self-report survey was answered by 120 full-time employees within the following trades; hotel and restaurant, trade, tourism, banking, school, national defence and construction. All participants had a full-time employment at the time, where they had been involved in a work related relationship with the same manager for at least six months. The results showed that the individual attachment styles in the different relationships were significantly correlated in the dimension of attachment related anxiety. No statistically significant correlations were found for the attachment related avoidance dimension. The results regarding gender differences showed that anxiety related to the male manager correlated to a larger degree with anxiety related to the father, than anxiety related to the mother. The same comparisons were made with a female manager but no statistically significant results were found. Regarding differences in age, there were statistically significant correlations for both younger and older participants. However the correlations for the younger group did not prove to be larger than the correlations found in the group with older participants. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
Samtliga deltagare... (More)

(Less)
