Title: He who neglects to drink from the spring of experience is likely to die of thirst in the desert of ignorance – A study of professionals’ view on their attitude in meeting with clients and professionalism of the two organiations.

The aim of our essay was to study if there were differences in the professional working style of the two organizations we chose, which were psychiatry and the Fountain House, when one of them was public and the other voluntary. Thereafter we had studied the meaning of the dimensions closeness and distance in the meeting with the client and what professionals in both organizations consider as professionality.

We used the qualitative method to reach our results. In addition, we have used semi-structured interviews where we had an interview guide. To interpret our material, we gathered relevant theories in the area of professionalism, profession, professionality, activity and fellowship and closeness and distance.

We discovered in our analysis that there was a significant difference between those two organizations, but that there still were some similarities between them such as to have enough distance in their relation to their clients. In our interviews we found that attendants were aware of the difficulties in meeting with the clients. The results shows that the attendants in both organizations emphasized the importance of a good relationship with the clients so that in its turn can help them to return to society and to get control over their lives again.
