Abstract (Swedish)
Abstract: This thesis treats the subject of rural development and nonfarm development in particular with a focus on community-based tourism. With support and examples from old development theories the aim is to explore how rural development in today’s world differs from the time of the industrial revolution and what that shift looks like.
A case study of Buliisa district Uganda, stands as example on the task to find support for community-based tourism as a nonfarm rural development approach and how it could affect the national economy as well as the individual community.
Key words: nonfarm, community-based tourism, cooperation, collaboration, agricultural-led development, modernisation
