Abstract
The main goal of this study is to develop a prototype version of a microphone-based conferencing system built on Apple iPhone and iOS. This study also evaluates if the system is applicable in a naturally occurring context. The prototype is based on two iOS units, iPhone or iPad, where one unit acts as a transmitter and the other as a receiver for human speech. The requirements state that a WiFi-router should be used for transmission of data while the delay and audio maintains high enough quality for the attending audience. The main problem is development and optimization of the system so that the delay time is kept below 80ms on average which is critical according to conclusions in the analysis. The main problem is development and optimization of the system so that the delay time is kept below 80ms on average which is critical according to conclusions in the analysis. Recording, transmission and playback are put in practise by using different iOS frameworks with Xcode being Apple’s development environment for iOS and OSX. The system was finally tested using two iOS-based iPhones for transmission and receiving. The test showed that acceptable delay and sound quality according to the requirements can be achieved. (Less)
