Abstract
There is no doubt that the construction industry needs to streamline its processes. There are four different ways to streamline the processes; Building Information Modelling (BIM), Lean Construction, industrialized building and partnering. In this examination paper we have investigated the possibility to streamline a specified company’s processes whit lean and BIM. More specific we have investigated NVS Installation AB’s processes from the customer’s request for a quote to construction planning. By studying BIM- and lean-literature we have gained deeper knowledge in how these can be used to streamline NVS processes. There is no doubt that the construction industry needs to streamline its processes. There are four different ways to streamline the processes; Building Information Modelling (BIM), Lean Construction, industrialized building and partnering. In this examination paper we have investigated the possibility to streamline a specified company’s processes whit lean and BIM. More specific we have investigated NVS Installation AB’s processes from the customer’s request for a quote to construction planning. By studying BIM- and lean-literature we have gained deeper knowledge in how these can be used to streamline NVS processes. To be able to give examples of how NVS processes can be streamlined we have conducted a case study that shows how they work today. In the case study we have studied NVS intranet and conducted interviews. Lean is the western interpretation of the Toyota production system. The philosophy of lean is to work smarter to achieve efficiency. Lean will make processes more efficient by; creating continues flow to bring up problems to the surface, eliminate waste and by working whit continues improvement. When working whit lean it is important to engage the whole company. Only by doing this, efficiency can be achieved. BIM is the new way of working in the building process. With BIM you create and use information in a digital model that represents a building or a facility. A building model is composed of objects that contain more information than just geometry. The information in the building model can be displayed in different views, for example construction documents, quantity takeoffs and clash detection. The conclusion shows that NVS can streamline their processes with lean and BIM. For example the calculator can create a building model and then it can be used and developed in the following processes. BIM and lean complement each other, by creating an output calculation from the building model you will for example get the opportunity track how the planning differs from the production. By tracking and reflecting, continuous improvement can be implemented which is an important part of lean. (Less)
