Abstract
The current energy demand of buildings in the studied countries varies a lot. With the new directive from the EU requiring nearly zero energy buildings, all the countries are striving for similar goals. Although the countries can make their own interpretation of what a nearly zero energy building is, the goals are quite close to each other. In a way, the EU has succeeded with their directive. The Swedish proposal about nearly zero energy buildings is way behind the other countries in our study. This proposal has received a lot of critique and a new proposal is being developed.
