Photoelectron spectroscopy studies of free metal clusters using synchrotron radiation

- Abstract
- As a part of an ongoing project at MAX-lab, the electronic structure of free metal clusters has been investigated. Large clusters, typically consisting of a few thousand atoms, have been produced using a gas aggregation source. (Some of) the core levels of these clusters have been probed using synchrotron radiation-based photoelectron spectroscopy. The experiments have been performed at the soft x-ray undulator beamline I411 at the MAX II storage ring.
In the work presented here, clusters of magnesium have been produced and its most shallow core level, the 2p level, has been probed. Also, the 4f level in lead clusters has been studied. The 4f spectrum is discussed in the context of earlier measurements on the 5d level where different... The 4f spectrum is discussed in the context of earlier measurements on the 5d level where different charge states of the cluster were identified in the spectrum.
Recently, the project has been extended to include the plasmons induced by the photoemission process and spectra of these features in potassium clusters have been obtained. In this work, spectra of plasmons in sodium clusters as well as plasmon overtones in potassium clusters are presented. (Less)
