Abstract
This master thesis has been carried out as a part of the research project TESSPA, with commission from the department of Industrial Production at Lund University. The purpose is to further develop and verify a method o calculate the process cost at smaller companies with discrete part manufacturing and to identify improvement- and development potential. The work has been carried out in cooperation with the company, which usually manufactures series as small as 1 to 20 parts. The manufacturing equipment consists of CNC-machines and manual milling and turning machines. The purpose is to further develop and verify a method o calculate the process cost at smaller companies with discrete part manufacturing and to identify improvement- and development potential. The work has been carried out in cooperation with the company, which usually manufactures series as small as 1 to 20 parts. The manufacturing equipment consists of CNC-machines and manual milling and turning machines. The company has grown a lot during the last years and has disregarded to develop an optimizing strategy for the manufacturing process. Two of the CNC-machines have been chosen to be analyzed and studied with help of two methods called Systematic Production Analyze and Manufacturing Economic Simulation. To acquire data a production performance matrix was developed for the two machines. The data was then gathered over a time of one week and then summarized in the matrix. The analysis has resulted in several measures that can reduce the process cost and simultaneously set free production time. Data should be gathered over a long period of time to get a more accurate process cost calculation. This is preferably done with a computer system with a user interface simple enough to let the operators concentrate on the manufacturing. (Less)
