The aim of this study is to try and describe what sort of competence home-help service staff wishes for among their closest co-workers in order to cope with daily work within the home-help service. The job within home-help service is both regarding form and expression constituted of meetings with other people, you work with people together with people. The text tackles the aim by focusing on mainly four entries - how the informants themselves feel about the group interaction based on the relationships they have to each other, what sort of competence is needed and how competence is used in practice. Another aspect is the approach that is needed in order to be able to deal prfessionally with the different situations daily faced by the staff. This phenomenological study is based on seven qualitative interviews with assistant nurses/home help orderlies, all practicing within the same team within home help service. The main conclusion of the study shows that the informants think that work functions well as long as most of the co-workers within the group contribute to a joint team work by having a humble approach and by being an able team worker. A well functioning team work within this working team is defined by the co-workers ability to communicate and to organize the work, both individually and as a group. An assistant nurse needs not least to have a sort of "built-in" feeling for timing when meeting other people on all levels. (Less)
