Under de senaste 100-200 åren har tall (Pinus sylvestris) etablerats på många sydsvenska mos-
sar. Eftersom tall trivs i relativt torra och näringsrika miljöer, ger detta en indikation på att grundvattennivån i mos-
sarna har sänkts. Tre mossar i Kronobergs län, Småland, har valts ut för en dendrokronologisk och torvstratigrafisk
undersökning för att se om det finns ytnära torvlager som vittnar om möjliga grundvattensänkningar och om dessa
kan knytas till tallens etablering. Vid en tidigare studie i Saxnäs mosse, Kronobergs län, observerades ett höghumi-

Under de senaste 100-200 åren har tall (Pinus sylvestris) etablerats på många sydsvenska mos-
sar. Eftersom tall trivs i relativt torra och näringsrika miljöer, ger detta en indikation på att grundvattennivån i mos-
sarna har sänkts. Tre mossar i Kronobergs län, Småland, har valts ut för en dendrokronologisk och torvstratigrafisk
undersökning för att se om det finns ytnära torvlager som vittnar om möjliga grundvattensänkningar och om dessa
kan knytas till tallens etablering. Vid en tidigare studie i Saxnäs mosse, Kronobergs län, observerades ett höghumi-
fierat lager daterat till 1960. Sex torvborrkärnor har tagits upp från Saxnäs mosse, Buxabygds mosse och Hästhults
mosse, alla belägna i Kronobergs län, för att se om det höghumifierade torvlagret även kan observeras vid de två
sistnämnda mossarna. Borrkärnorna omfattade den översta metern och har stratigrafiskt beskrivits utifrån humifie-
ringsgrad och torvtyp. Torvprover har analyserats genom glödförlust, torr bulkdensitet och organisk bulkdensitet
med 2 cm intervall. Resultatet från dendrokronologiska data visade att mossetallarna var relativt unga, endast 50-
160 år gamla. Torvstratigrafin och analyserna visade att det finns ytnära höghumifierade horisonter i varje mosse
som indikerar att en grundvattensänkning i mossarna har skett. Under 1900-talet har dikning varit ett vanligt sätt att
sänka grundvattennivån i mossar och i anslutning till respektive undersökt mosse finns spår av sådana aktiviteter.
Tidigare studier har visat på samband mellan tallens etablering och mossedräneringar samt torvbrytning. Därför är
det troligt att tall har etablerats vid de undersökta mossarna de senaste 100-200 åren som en följd av vattenförrätt-

Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) can be found growing in many raised bogs in Småland, south Sweden, and
these trees have been established during the last 100-200 years. Because pine prefers a relatively dry environment
rich in nutrients, its presence indicates a lowering of the groundwater table. Three bogs in south Sweden were in-
vestigated with dendrochronologic and peat stratigraphic methods to document the presence of any near-surface
layers with a high degree of humification that could reflect low groundwater levels associated with the establish-
ment of pine. A highly humified layer dated to 1960 has been observed in an earlier study in Saxnäs mosse, south
Sweden. Six peat cores were collected from Saxnäs mosse, Hästhults mosse... (More)

common way to achieve lowering of groundwater levels in bogs during the 20th century and signs of such activities
are visible at the investigated sites. Earlier studies of pine growing on bogs have showed a connection between pine
growth and drainage and peat harvesting. Therefore it is likely that pine was established on the investigated bogs
during the last 100-200 years as a consequence of water regulation. (Less)
