Abstract
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to examine which ideas that have been influential in the Swedish debate on regionalization and to analyze the change in the usage of these ideas. This study is a descriptive idea analysis based on the official state reports on regionalization that have been published between 1968 and 2012. The main focus is therefore on the official viewpoint in the discussion on regionalization.
The idea analysis is constructed of three ideas based on existing theoretical literature; the idea of the strong central state, the idea of a strong regional democracy and the idea of Europeanization.
The conclusion of this study is that all of the three ideas are present in the studied official state reports between 1968 and... (More)

The idea analysis is constructed of three ideas based on existing theoretical literature; the idea of the strong central state, the idea of a strong regional democracy and the idea of Europeanization.
The conclusion of this study is that all of the three ideas are present in the studied official state reports between 1968 and 2012. The idea of the strong central state has been given least support (which is somewhat surprising because of Sweden’s slow regionalization process). The idea of a strong regional democracy has been most frequent in the reports, both in the early ones before 1990 and the latest ones. The idea of Europeanization is not present at all in the reports before 1990 but used frequently in the first reports after 1990. (Less)
