I have used discourse analysis to analyze how media represents and explains the difference in the violence which had an outcome of murder. The Swedish perpetrators actions are explained with bad social environment and mental illness. Whereas, the non-Swedish perpetrators actions are explained with a foreign religion and strong cultural bounds. This brings a debate about honor-related violence which puts a shadow on the violence against women that occurs ever so often.
Media makes the cases an event and puts a lot more background into the story about the foreign perpetrator.
