Abstract
Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James is a novel portraying the relationship between Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. The purpose of this essay is to analyze the novel from a gender perspective and examine if the theme of BDSM is influenced by normative conceptions about men and women. The essay investigates how perceptions of masculinity and femininity are reproduced in the novel.
