The aim of this study was to examine the aspects of the elderlys influence on their everyday life when they are living at nursing homes. The problem that discussed was in what ways the elderly have influence in their daily lives and on those routines that are imprinted at the nursing homes. The study was based on three interviews with elderly that lives in a nursing home, with three nurses that work at different nursing homes and with one person that is supervisor at a nursing home. Two themes were identified and discussed. These were; influence at the everyday routines and the influence between the elderly related to the nursing home as a organization. The material was analyzed by the Empowerment theory. A conclusion drawn was that there were mixed experiences among the three interviewed subjects. The elderly thought that they had influence in their everyday life, but the lack of examples of their influence made it contradictory. The majority of the nurses believed it were difficult for the elderly to have impact on their everyday routines, because of the lack of time from the nurses. The supervisor refers to answer with the organizations guidelines. According to those she claimed that the elderly most of the time can decide over their own lives when living at a nursing home.
