- Abstract
- In the 2002 election, the Swedish conservative party, Moderaterna, did their worst election in over twenty years. After the 2002 election the party managed to become successful and in eight years the party has doubled their voter support, and has together with the parties from Alliansen managed to win two elections in a row. This study focuses on Moderaterna’s success in Swedish politics in the last decade, by using Anthony Downs’s theory of vote maximizing, which says that parties aim to maximize voter support by changing politics to the ones which will give them the most voters. In doing so they will move to the middle of the political sphere where most of the voters are. In this study I investigate if Moderaterna has changed their... (More)

In doing so they will move to the middle of the political sphere where most of the voters are. In this study I investigate if Moderaterna has changed their politics towards the middle of the political sphere when it comes to how to organize the welfare, distribution of public goods, and how the government should rule society, by studying their political programs before and after their first successful election in 2006. The results of the study have come to show that Moderaterna has moved towards the middle of the political sphere, and that this could be a reason for their success. (Less)
