Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the long term health effects of a shift change from a fast forward-rotating to a slowly backward-rotating schedule in an industrial company. The study is a follow-up of a study that was made in 2004 when this intervention was made. Data was collected using questionnaires covering subjective health, sleep and fatigue, need for recovery, work-family interface and job demands, control and support. A within-group comparison, for the 39 shift workers who had participated and could be identified 2004 and 2012 was made as well as a between-group comparison between the 118 shift workers who participated 2004 and the 82 shift workers who took part in 2012. Mann Whitney U-test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank test... (More)

In the within-group comparison significant deteriorations were only found in the subscales KSQ-sleepiness and SOFI-lack of energy, and more A larger number of employees stated that they needed two days or more for recovery. None of the remaining 16 variables showed a significant change though and these results indicate that the positive results derived from the shift schedule change eight years ago are still valid. Abstract (Swedish)
