- Abstract
- The aim of this study is to investigate the World Bank Development Report from a perspective of human capabilities. Of interest is to understand the meanings of the deve- lopment issues stated in the report, and how they affect individuals living in development countries. In this way, the complexity of the problems can be illustrated. The purpose of this paper is to use Martha Nussbaum’s theory about capabilities to answer the questions; What meaning can the problems of the WDR 2012 in a perspective of capabilities? And; What meaning does the term "development" have in the report com- pared to Martha Nussbaum's perspective of capabilities?

Comparative method was used to compare the bank’s main messages with Nussbaum’s theory, in addition to Sylvia Chant’s feminist perspective on households.
