Abstract
It’s widely known that adolescent crime is a problem and work as a threat to our society. Even though it’s not a new phenomenon we still don’t know for sure how to explain the youth’s criminal behavior. Instead we tend to create our own understanding which is heavily affected by our surroundings. How can one explain adolescent crime? Are there risk factors that are more dominant than others? To get a deeper understanding of adolescent crime, we need to first take research into consideration, as well as experience-based knowledge from the field to get their most recent explanation of the reasons behind adolescent crime. To get a deeper understanding of adolescent crime, we need to first take research into consideration, as well as experience-based knowledge from the field to get their most recent explanation of the reasons behind adolescent crime. I therefore compared some of the foremost peer reviewed research with qualitative attachment interviews with five professional experienced social workers who directly came in contact with the youths. The analysis is based on Hirsch’s theory about social connections. The result showed that the social workers identified antisocial behavior and ADHD as internal risk factors, and lack of motivation in school, criminal friends, bad parenting as well as social media as outer risk factors. The social workers and the research couldn’t specify one reason to explain the youth’s criminal behavior. Based on this study adolescent crime is a multifactorial problem and could be based off a series of events that creates new problems. (Less)
