Statistics show that the number of women graduates in
construction-related educations in Sweden slowly is increasing, but this increase is not reflected in the labour market. Statistics show that the number of women graduates in
construction-related educations in Sweden slowly is increasing, but this increase is not reflected in the labour market. Since the construction industry is in the midst of high retirement measures must be taken for this drop-out. A study done in 1988 resulted in the influencing factors on female construction workers, but what about the engineering women? Purpose This study aims to identify correlations to why the number of women studying construction-related educations is noticeable greater than what is found in the labour market. Method This paper is based on literature studies and an Internet survey with a qualitative approach. Gathered survey data has been analyzed with a hermeneutic approach. Conclusion The results of the study are not generalisable, but are intended to contribute to further research in the field and also improving the educations. The conclusions, however, indicate correlations between the reasons women have for choosing a construction-related education and leaving the industry. (Less)
