Abstract
The aim of this study was to see how some of Sweden’s leading newspapers explained the
causes of homelessness. The study reveals a variety of explanations to homelessness
told by the newspapers. To do so the method of content analysis has been used, this is
a method to reveal categories and themes in the subjected material.
This study also tries to discuss how medias explanations to homelessness can affect the
publics opinions about the phenomena. To do so I have used a theory about the second level
agenda-setting, which is a theory which tries to explain how media can affect the

have a cunstructionistic standpoint, and tries to examine the explanations to homelessness in a
constructive context. In short this study revealed that Swedish newspapers in some way can
influence the public opinion about homelessness and that the current research not always
