- Abstract (Swedish)
- The subject of this paper is ship carvings in Skåne, Blekinge, Halland, Småland, Västergötlandand Östergötlandand to investigate if there is any difference between the ship carvings at the shores compared to the ship carvings in the inland. But there is a lack of these carvings in what would be called inland so a third category is used. This category is ship carvings at larger lakes and is centralized around the ship carvings at the two lakes Vättern and Vänern. A major part of this paper is a comparison of the amount of ship carvings and the details on those carvings, from the information available on fmis.se and images from shfa.se. A major part of this paper is a comparison of the amount of ship carvings and the details on those carvings, from the information available on fmis.se and images from shfa.se. To make the subject more feasible the carvings has been divided in categories by county and after an analyze and discussion the results are not unsuspected. There is no big difference between the ship carvings along the shores compared to those along the larger lakes. The reason for this might be that these two lakes also are large bodies of water where sturdier ships might have been necessary, ships that maybe were similar to the sea going ships. But it is also possible that the reason to the similarities in the carvings are because of a connection between the people living close to the sea and the people living close to the lakes. If this is the case and the idea and tradition of ship carvings were something that spread between people this may also explain why we can find ship carvings, even if they are small in numbers, in the inland. But these ship carvings are extremely simplified and the only bodies of water in the area are small lakes and rivers. This could also explain why these ship carvings are simplified due to the lack of need for the ships to be able to withstand strong winds or violent storms. (Less)
