Mineralpolitikens ideologi

- Abstract
- This thesis takes the current Swedish mining-boom and the conflicts it entails as its point of departure. More precisely, it investigates the question of how to understand the position of the political establishment, defined as the present right-wing government, the Social Democratic Party and the mining-company organization SveMin, in relation to the Swedish mining-boom. This is done through a critical ideology analysis of main strategy-documents produced by the actors, as well as a theoretical framework constructed from critical theory concerning ideology.

(More) - This thesis takes the current Swedish mining-boom and the conflicts it entails as its point of departure.
The main findings of the research is that the ideology of the political establishment can be seen as a homogeneous ideology. Although the analyzed documents differ to some extent in their manifest content, they correspond in their latent content. Put differently, the texts highlight somewhat different elements of the mining-industry and the conflicts surrounding it, but the underlying view of society, of economic growth and of sustainable development is the same. That is, it favors the interests of the mining-industry, of economic growth and of the capitalist system before other interests such as the environment, human health and the indigenous people.
In addition to its analytical content, the thesis contributes to the development of critical ideology analysis as a method. (Less)
