The aim of this study was to illuminate adoption and attachment and the difficulties that can occur when adoptive parents and adoptive child shall make a secure attachment patterns, seen from a professional- and parents perspective. I did qualitative semistructured interviews with two social workers that work with adoption studies and with two adoptive parents. The main outcome of this study was that some adoption children have attachment problems, avoidant attachment, anxious attachment or disorganized attachment. Adoption attachment problems can occur because of the separation adoptive children have endured, also because of the child high age when they was adopted or because of their traumatic background. Adoptive parents own attachment ability and the emotional and practical caregiving they give the adoptive child also matters. I found how attachment behavior in the child can show in daily life, for example separations difficulties or uncritical children.
Key words: Adoption, attachment, separation, attachment difficulties, adoptive parents, Social workers. (Less)
