It makes it possible for people to buy a house or get an education, things that might have been impossible without the possibility of taking a loan. The ideas of value of loans and being a loan taker are complex and are currently undergoing a change, a change that for the first time is being analyzed by the use of ethnographic methods such as interviews and a focus group. Through the use of Ian Hackings theories regarding social construction, I analyze the ideas loan takers have regarding loans and being a loan taker and the ongoing changes that these entail. The ideas of the good loan and what it means to be a good loan takers in contemporary Sweden influence how the loan taker perceive themselves in relation to their loans but also how they perceive others. I analyze this through three themes: Debt, Risk and Value. In this study I found that the ideas around debt, risk and value are undergoing changes that will pose difficulties for the bank in within 5-10 year where the personal subjective values of loans are starting to overshadow the economic objective values. People are also more inclined to move around in the flexible society and therefor there will be a need to create flexible loans. Last, in the Swedish society people have become more dependent on family, friends and banks in association with loan taking while striving for independence which is causing discomfort. (Less)
