Abstract
Over the last 20 years the population in large Swedish cities and their suburbs has grown with 25%. This massive population growth has increased the competition in the housing market, which results in people moving more often. The most frequent movers are between 20-30 years old and they move every 6-12 months.
With this background the goal was to examine the living situation for these people. What do they value in their homes and how does the constant moving affect their everyday life?

With this background the goal was to examine the living situation for these people. What do they value in their homes and how does the constant moving affect their everyday life?
Through interviews, surveys and field studies we found that when you move as often as once or twice per year the needs are different for different kinds of accommodations. The size of the accommodation, what kind and how many belongings you can own vary. The storage possibilities may also vary a lot depending on where you live.
Our research led to two main problems; the possibility to adapt the way you store your belongings in different living situations and how you transport your belongings between the different accommodations.
The concept we chose to focus more towards was the adaptability of storage.
In developing the concept our main tool was sketch modeling; this gave us instant feedback of functions and usability. The materials used had to transmit the values of the project, simple, stable and low tech. We tried to find a merge between furniture and a moving box. The cardboard used is a 3mm thick paperboard traditionally used for book covers. With further inspiration from bookbinding cloth was used, a thin cotton fabric with a thin paper base. This creates great stability and won’t wear over time. The eight parts and flaps have a flexible joint of cloth that enables them to be bent both to the front and back with this the box may be assembled and disassembled when needed.
The final proposal is a system of cardboard boxes that you can fold flat when not in use, stack on each other, connect to get a feeling of a furniture rather than separate units, open from two sides to make the content more accessible and while moving it can be locked with the help of a simple lace to prevent things from falling out. The dimensions of the box are made to fit under the bed or in a closet, which makes it possible to choose whether you want to use it as exposed furniture or hide it. (Less)
