Abstract
In Sweden, almost every county has their public transportation handled by an individual company. The public transportation companies have their own, official, travel planner application. Which means that the appearance and functions of the applications are different. Hence, this master thesis aims to design and evaluate a new travel planner that can be used for the individual companies. The travel planner should enable quick ticket purchasing and give the user satisfaction during usage. A vital part of this master thesis is to include the user at an early stage of development and through design iterations refine the design of the travel planner.

A survey was initially sent out to collect opinions and desirable functions in a travel planner. With the acquired data, functions and features could be determined and several sketches of possible menus were developed.

To determine which menu to further develop and which icons to use, a focus group was held. With the outcome, two low-fidelity prototypes were made, one with a classic icon menu and another with a slider menu.

Thereafter two focus groups were held to discuss the prototypes. For this focus group the application POP, Prototype on paper, was used. This application enabled the participants to get a real application feeling even though the prototypes were made on paper.

During the next design iteration the prototypes were made into applications, developed in Eclipse to give the user an Android-feeling. User tests were conducted in the usability lab at LTH and with the opinions collected from the tests, a last iteration of the design was made. This to tweak the high-fidelity prototype according to the comments from the usability tests and to finalize the design. (Less)
