- Abstract
- The purpose of this thesis is to examine the capacity of the Swedish railway network and try to centre upon rail freight; will the Swedish railway net be able to handle future demands of railway freight? To accomplish this consumed capacity was calculated for different parts of the rail network. Not the whole network was selected, parts that had more than six good trains per day in 2011. To be able to calculate on the different parts of the railway some assumptions where made; Sweden was divided into two parts, north and south. The traffic as assumed be ¾ freight traffic and ¼ passenger traffic north of Gävle. South of Gävle the traffic was assumed to be 1/3 freight traffic and 2/3 passenger traffic. On the different parts of the railway... (More)

On the different parts of the railway the consumed capacity and the transport network was calculated from the planned traffic in Sweden in 2014. Also, consumed capacity was calculated with help from assumed freight traffic in 2030. The thesis also shows that society saves with transport that is made with trains instead of trucks. (Less)
