- Abstract
- Millions of people worldwide – of whom many are unaccompanied minors – are refugees due to states’ inability or lack of will to protect them. This contrasts sharply to Hannah Arendt’s emphasis on the importance of being a citizen for having the human rights realised. This thesis thus aims at obtaining more knowledge about the realisation of the human rights. This will be done by examining Hannah Arendt’s text “The perplexities of the rights of man” from the famous book The Origins of Totalitarianism with a phenomenological understanding. The examination will thereafter serve as a theory in the narrative analysis of five unaccompanied young adults’ narratives that were obtained through qualitative interviews.
