- Abstract
- The aim for this study was to investigate how the service-user identity is constructed and how it interacts with neoliberalism. Service-user emphasizes a person that is independent and autonomy’s in the welfare system. The word started to be used around 1980s and some say it was a result of neoliberalism that spread across the world at the same time.
Four interviews have been done with professionals and representative for organizations. The interviewed represent people with mental health problem. The study was formed on the basis of a social constructionist approach and Faircloughs critical discourse analyze.

The study showed that the professionals and representative constructed an independent, autonomy’s and individual service-user identity. But they also talked about a service-user who is depended on professionals and unpredictable. The study showed a link between the idea of the service-user and neoliberalism. (Less)
