Abstract (Swedish)

(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Artland is a personal reflection on the relationship between the human being and other species, and a vision for how cities can be richer in species.

The amount of wild animals decrease drastically all over the world, more and more species move into the city, there is a need for nature and green infrastructure in the urban setting for many species. This made me ask the questions:

How can architecture contribute to biodiversity?

How can architecture contribute to changed hierarchy between humans and other species?

How can architecture contribute to create places where humans and wild animals can meet in the urban environment?

How can architecture contribute to biodiversity?

How can architecture contribute to changed hierarchy between humans and other species?

How can architecture contribute to create places where humans and wild animals can meet in the urban environment?

I investigate humans’ relationship with animals, animals’ relationship with humans and my own personal relationship with animals. I do this by studying fables, art and animal behavior and with walkabouts, study trips and a hunting experience. Parallel I study borders by working with collages and sketches, with the edge of the forest as reference, with the ambition to create as much diversity in typologies as possible.

With this background I develop a vision for Malmö port to be transformed, with a number of tools, from a monofunctional industrial area to a richer space for species. In this new city landscape, I investigate three situations in depth.

Can the city be a place for more species, to meet on a more equal level? Artland is a masterthesis about how a city like this could look like. (Less)
