This essay tries to find out what Isis-supporters tweets about and how that can be explained. Since the Islamic State, Isis, took large swaths of Syria and Iraq the activities from sympathisers on social media have been noticed all over the world.

With help from the theory a world emerges where Isis-followers expresses a elitist definition of the self, a Manichean division of the world betweet good and evil and an essentialistic view of violence. The ideological discourse is messianic and obscure.
Since the Isis have existed for only a short period of time, the organization is an understudied object. Moreover, the existing fields of science often lacks a theoretical backbone. With this essay my hope is twofold: A contrubution of theory to the field of Isis and terrorism studies and an analysis of social media to the social movement studies. (Less)
