(2015) PPTN76 20151Department of Psychology
- Abstract (Swedish)
I resultatet identifierades två huvudgrupper. (More)

(Less)
- Abstract
- The aim of this qualitative study was to examine how patients who dropped out of cognitive behavioral therapy experienced their therapy – focusing on the alliance and the interventions – and to illustrate how their experiences of therapy related to the decision to drop out. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight people. The material was analysed using thematic analysis, and ten themes were identified. Two main groups were identified: One group experienced that the need for therapy disappeared early on, and hence did not deem the therapy meaningful and dropped out. The other group experienced that they had a continued need for therapy, but did not feel that the therapy they had begun offered them what they needed or that it... (More)

The other group experienced that they had a continued need for therapy, but did not feel that the therapy they had begun offered them what they needed or that it made them feel worse. They were dissatisfied either with the therapist, the alliance or the interventions, and therefore dropped out. The conclusion was that it was difficult to talk about the dropouts as a cohesive group with similar issues. Instead, the dropping out of therapy in the first group seemed desirable, whereas, in the second group, it was a problem requiring further knowledge. (Less)
