Football-related violence has been a problem in Sweden for a long time. On 30 March 2014 it reached its climax when a Djurgården supporter was killed in connection with a match against Helsingborgs IF, which started a crisis that affected both Helsingborgs IF and its supporters' association Kärnan. This study, which focuses on member organizations’ crisis communication and interorganizational relationships in crisis situations is conducted from a social constructionist perspective. The empirical data consists of semi-structured interviews and text analysis of both organizations communication via their respective websites and Facebook pages of most urgent phase of the crisis. Our study shows how it has become increasingly more complex for sports clubs to identify their main stakeholders in crisis communications, and how social media have become the main channel of crisis communication for smaller member associations. The study's conclusion is that it is not possible to create a model of how non-profit member organizations should handle crisis communication as they may have different goals and different economic conditions and thus also have to focus on different target groups. We can also establish that two linked organizations do not necessarily have to have an expressed cooperation in their crisis communication but it is essential that they work after the same problem definition internally.
