Abstract
The ‘superman’ does not simply carry the accustomed drives and strivings of the customary type of man beyond all measures and bounds. Superman is a qualitatively, not quantitatively, different form of existing man. The thing that the superman discards is precisely our boundless, purely quantitative non-stop progress. The superman is poorer, simpler, tenderer and tougher, quieter and more self-sacrificing and slow of decision and more economical of speech. Martin Heidegger - What is Called Thinking?, NY, Harper & Row, 1968, P. 76.

Martin Heidegger - What is Called Thinking?, NY, Harper & Row, 1968, P. 76.

This quote by Martin Heidegger clearly reveals, that the human species is in need to change its destructive road map.

Today’s design is not only a question of shape, style and function. Design has taken on dimensions that strongly influence the wellbeing of all creatures. Therefore design must be considered as a form of global politics. A problem-solving attitude within the current and global framework of economical and financial growth is a paradigm. Heidegger clearly states, that the human being has to understand that all matter is finite, which infers that growth is not endless.

The recognition that modern progress is likely to be a trap and that quantitative industrial production is of great unsustainability, imposes a big challenge and moral demand on designers, as they must disengage design from the mechanisms out of which it grew: industry, marketing, economy and capitalism.
By doing so, designers are given the chance to redefine the practice of design and acknowledge its impact on the future of human existence as well as on the indispensable healthy relationship to planet earth - the provider and pressures source of all life.

The project MadeReal seeks to find answers to this challenge.

MadeReal’s are hand-crafted and limited edition objects of mind, soul, heart, design and art. First objects were developed in collaboration with artisans in Skåne and Berlin:
Fred Jacob Basket Weaver - Berlin,
Anna R. Kinman Ceramist - Malmö,
Arvid Salemark Wood Carpenter - Malmö,
Elna Jolom Glassblower - Österlen.

MadeReal’s evolve through the very process of making and aim, to enhance the unique, true and natural qualities of the used materials.

By putting equal emphasis on the processes of creation, the nature of materials and functional aspects, the objects assimilate a qualitative balance.

MadeReal will continue to explore its philosophy and the infinite potential that the very nature of materials holds in store for those, who learn to listen. (Less)
