- Abstract (Swedish)
- The purpose of this paper was to describe what happens when therapists focuses on the patient’s body, body language and body signals in the therapeutic work. What are the implications for the therapist to add this focus on the body, and does it change the outcome and results of the therapy? A qualitative approach was used to obtain the results. These results show that, even if very difficult to master, the ISTDP-method with focus on body, body language and body signals, provides therapists with a new way of intervening, and a better understanding and knowledge of anxiety. The patient’s whole body is important for observation but in general it´s specific attention to breathing patterns, chest, face and hands. Body signals have become a base... (More)

Body signals have become a base and it helps the therapist to intervene. The discrepancy between the verbal message, and the body signals observed in the patient should be carefully investigated. These body signals are often unconscious and can be important pieces to getting results. The ISTDP-method requires the therapist to involve themselves emotionally in the patient; which requires a great deal of courage on the therapists end. All sessions using the ISTDP- method are filmed which is a great help to the therapist and can also be used for training and supervision. (Less)
