Abstract
The overall purpose of this thesis is to study what the general understanding of human trafficking for sexual purposes is, and at the same time increase the awareness regarding the subject. It is important to highlight this subject matter, since Sweden is striving for equality within its society (Bucken-Knapp, Karlsson & Persson-Strömbäck, 2010: 182) and the thesis becomes of interest when studying the views of this crime in Sweden in 2015.
To be able to meet the purpose of the study we have asked questions concerning what the social norms surrounding the crime are and what the views regarding the social power structures of sex, social class, and ethnicity are, and also how well they correspond to the theory of socialist feminism.

The overall purpose of this thesis is to study what the general understanding of human trafficking for sexual purposes is, and at the same time increase the awareness regarding the subject. To be able to meet the purpose of the study we have asked questions concerning what the social norms surrounding the crime are and what the views regarding the social power structures of sex, social class, and ethnicity are, and also how well they correspond to the theory of socialist feminism.
The study is performed from two perspectives - sociology of law and a normative perspective. To answer our questions we will analyse 212 answers of a quantitative survey we shared through the social media Facebook.
Our results show that the participants of this study have taken notice of the impact of the social power structures within human trafficking for sexual purposes and expressed a negative attitude and resentment toward their influence on the crime. The social norm within our close social environment is to regard sex and social class as somewhat more important elements than ethnicity in the process of human trafficking for sexual purposes.
