This study takes the form of a case study and Kågeröd is used to illustrate the civil society organization and its importance for law enforcement. Through interviews with three key people I have gained an insight into how Kågeröds as a civil Society is structured and what the motivation behind the citizen´s actions is. Kågeröd is rich in social capital, they have a strong informal social control and they have a collective efficacy which provides them with the ability to work together towards common goals. Civil initiative is an important part of Society´s crime prevention program and villages as Kågeröd should be seen as a valuable resource in crime prevention. The State has monopoly on the judicial aspects of repression, but that is only a limited part of law enforcement. Citizen participation must be seen as an equally important part. According to Christie, administration of justice rests too much on vertically operated system when it instead should be secured locally and be settled between the parties concerned. Forms for effective collaboration between the public and the private must be found so the parties can work complementary. (Less)
