- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

- A construction site with zero accidents. So reads the vision concerning safety among many of the Swedish construction companies. Today the building trade is an industry with many accidents, and also the industry which has the most deaths per year. To get closer to the vision concerning zero accidents, work and development on many fronts is a necessity. One of these fronts could be the usage of BIM (building information modeling). Currently a rapid development towards using more and more 3D models with associated information is happening in the construction sector, these models with information is what BIM is all about. Currently a rapid development towards using more and more 3D models with associated information is happening in the construction sector, these models with information is what BIM is all about. The main aim of this report is to get a closer look on how the construction companies Peab, NCC and Skanska uses BIM in general, and also how they use it in the area concerning work environment and safety. The study is based on a literature review, a meeting and interviews. The report starts with a chapter which describes basic laws and rules concerning work environment in general and safety on Swedish construction sites. Thereafter follows a chapter with facts about BIM, and at last there is a chapter which describes how the usage of BIM can be applied in the area of safety. Several BIM tools are processed in the report, among them are for example the possibility to make 3D layouts for the construction site, visualizations, coordination, modelling of safety equipment, automatic risk identification, virtual environments and info screens containing BIM illustrations. The study shows that the companies use the BIM tools to a certain extent, but also that this is an area of development. According to the interviewed the biggest challenge for introducing BIM in the area of safety is the old habits among people plus the unfamiliarity with technology, but if you listen to BIM coordinators and BIM responsible staff at Peab, NCC and Skanska, this is not an obstacle which can not be overcomed.
