Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
This Bachelor thesis aims to describe how Sweden's entry into the European Union has affected the bilateral trade flow. The thesis will describe the trade flow between the EU member states, with a control group in which the high income OECD countries are included. Years investigated are 1992 to 2000 since Sweden was a member of the EU in 1995. Great emphasis is given to the Single Market Program in which Sweden was a part of due to its entrance in the customs union. The program aimed to strengthen the inner market of the EU with elimination of non-tariff barriers to trade, as the main focus before had been the removal of the tariff barriers to trade. Sectors with high non-tariff barriers to trade has been defined as sensitive, whereas... (More)

Sectors with high non-tariff barriers to trade has been defined as sensitive, whereas other sectors are insensitive. The methodology used in this thesis is the econometric gravity model of trade. Even though the increase of bilateral trade between the years investigated has been confirmed, the thesis purpose is to examine whether the increase could be ascribed the EU entry. The results point out that there would be a negative relationship between the sensitive sectors and increased bilateral trade. However, the authors view to these results are very sceptical and choose to rely on previous research and economic theory in general which proves the opposite. (Less)
