- Abstract
- The aim of this thesis is to examine how the production and consumption of milk in the modern and post-modern Swedish society can be said to reflect general cultural and societal development. Focus is put on how it is affected by notions of the cartesian dichotomy between nature and culture.
This is achieved using literature drawing on several disciplines relevant to the interdisciplinary field of human ecology, completed by a critical discourse analysis of information about milk communicated mainly by Mjölkpropagandan in the 1920’s and 30’s and LRF Mjölk's website mjolk.se today.
The results from this study show that even though the symbolism of milk is expressed differently over time, the cartesian notion of the dichotomy between...
