According to previous research, the Swedish political self-image is largely constructed through periods of generous refugee policies and the idea of solidarity as something that goes beyond swedish borders. I have used discourse theory to identify discursive battles between cosmopolitan and national ideas in the construction of immigration discourses. The identities that are constructed in this process helps me to identify how to make these conflicts visible. National ways of defining reality makes the more restrictive migration discourse possible to legitimize even though it differs from the parties migration discourses. (Less)
