- Abstract
- This report investigates how the fire protection is regulated and implemented and also how follow-up of fire protection can be done. The purpose of follow-up is to measure the state of a chosen property, in this case fire protection. In order to find methods for follow-up of fire protection an identification of methods was done. This identification consisted of a literature review and an international survey. In order to investigate how the implementation of regulations works a series of interviews was conducted with stakeholders within different working areas related to fire protection. The purpose of the interviews was to seek knowledge about how the work in the phases (regulations, design, construction and management) is carried out and... (More)

This identification consisted of a literature review and an international survey. In order to investigate how the implementation of regulations works a series of interviews was conducted with stakeholders within different working areas related to fire protection. The purpose of the interviews was to seek knowledge about how the work in the phases (regulations, design, construction and management) is carried out and how the phases interact. In the international survey no method for follow-up of fire protection could be found. In the literature study identified methods include measurements of compliance, case studies, round robin and expert assessments. The interviews show that the deficiencies in the application of regulations are present in all phases. The opinions of the interviewees indicate major deficiencies in the design phase. The main deficiencies seem to be present in the handover between the phases. The crucial activities are due to the interviewees the transference of information and knowledge from one phase to another. The application of identified methods are absent in this report. Examples of possible application of the methods identified in the literature review show that it is possible to follow up fire protection with various amounts of resources. The deficiencies and crucial activities identified in this report leads to an analysis of the process from a holistic perspective. With this perspective the importance of taking the complexity of the process into account is emphasized. (Less)
